BigRep PLA (Poly-Lactic Acid) is a thermoplastic material derived from materials such as corn, cassava, sugarcane, cereals, or sugar beet. This unique combination of renewable resources allows PLA thermoplastic to become biodegradable under the right conditions, reducing its overall environmental impact. When compared with other materials, BigRep PLA is easy to use and demonstrates much less shrinkage and warping. Â
Key Features:
- Inexpensive
- Highly versatile properties
- Environmentally friendly thermoplastic
- Low warping and shrinkage
- Food safe
Compatibility with:
- BigRep ONE
- BigRep Studio
- BigRep Studio G2
- BigRep Pro
- Other Compatible FFF 3D Printers
Product Specifications:
PLA's overall properties are widely dependent upon 3D printing conditions such as extruder temperature, extrusion speed, cooling system, etc. Due to the fact that it demonstrates less shrinkage and warping than other materials, however, it’s possible to successfully print with PLA in an open environment and without a dedicated cooling system.
For applications at higher humidity (above 98%) and higher temperatures (above 60°C) other polymers, such as BigRep’s Pro HT and PETG, are recommended.
*High moisture levels may harm the quality of extrusion, leading to nozzle clogging, bubbles, and spurting. Filaments should remain sealed in storage in order to prevent moisture absorption. BigRep PLA is FDA compliant for food safety and meets the requirements of EU Directives on food contact. |
